Team India skipper Rohit Sharma and BCCI men's side's chief selector Ajit Agarkar answered some key questions during the Asia Cup 2023 squad announcement. The tournament is set to begin on August 30 and will be played in hybrid model in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

India have been placed in Group A with Pakistan and Nepal and will clash with Men in Green on September 2nd and will then play Nepal on September 4 in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

The big news from the squad announcement was the return of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul in the mix, as they recovered from their respective injuries. However, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that Rahul has a fresh niggle and might miss a couple of matches in Asia Cup.

The 17-member squad sees Hardik Pandya as vice-captain and also Tilak Varma, who impressed in the recent T20i series against the West Indies, received a maiden ODI call-up.

During the presser, Rohit Sharma was asked by one of the reporters about top-order batters not rolling their arms over. Whereas players from the 2011 World Cup winning squad were consistently doing that and it resulted in India winning the tournament.

Asia Cup 2023: KL Rahul may miss first few Asia Cup games due to fresh niggle, says chief selector Ajit Agarkar

Rohit Sharma while replying to this query said that in 2011 team had players with the ability to bowl and they cannot overnight create players who can bowl. He also made a cheeky remark saying that it is possible that him and Virat Kohli might bowl a few overs in World Cup.

We can’t create batters who will bowl overnight. Hopefully Sharma and Kohli can roll some arm over in the World Cup,” Rohit said.

Ajit Agarkar also added:  “Yeah, we have convinced them.
