Jaiswal hit 171 in his Test debut for India against West Indies in Dominica recently.
Jaiswal, who had an excellent outing in the Indian domestic season this year and then made that form count in IPL 2023 as well, where he scored 625 runs with one century and 5 half-centuries including the fastest-ever in IPL history, made his Test debut for India with a bang.
He scored a sublime 171 in the first Test against West Indies in Dominica and impressed Sourav Ganguly a lot.
“I would like to see Jaiswal play in the upcoming ODI World Cup. I have watched him from close quarters during the IPL. But red-ball cricket is different and he showed that he has it in him to succeed there too. I feel he has the quality to serve Indian cricket for long,” Ganguly was quoted by Times of India.
The former India skipper stressed Jaiswal’s inclusion in the World Cup squad from a tactical point of view too.
“I am always in favor of left-hand-right-hand combination in the top order. That puts the rival attack under some trouble as the bowlers have to continuously vary their line and length accordingly,” he pointed out.
Recently, Jaiswal was named in the Asian Games squad by the BCCI and the squad contains players that probably might not make it in the Indian team for the World Cup as the schedule for the two events are overlapping.
Therefore Ganguly said that it would be better for the selectors to pull Jasiwal out of the Asian Games and consider him for the World Cup instead.
Ganguly said: “They should preferably pull Jaiswal out of the Asian Games side and consider him for the World Cup.”
