Ganguly spoke about reasons why India has failed to win an ICC trophy.
The ODI World Cup 2023 will begin in India on October 5 and will see India play Australia in their first match in Chennai on October 8th.
India has not won an ICC Trophy since the 2013 Champions Trophy victory under MS Dhoni. India then reached the final of the T20 World Cup 2014, the semi-final of the World Cup 2015, and the semis of the T20 World Cup 2016 under Dhoni.
Virat Kohli captained the side to the final of the Champions Trophy in 2017 and the semi-final of the World Cup in 2019. He also captained the side in the inaugural World Test Championship Final in 2021. India was eliminated in the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2021.
Then Rohit Sharma took over and captained the Indian team to the semis of the T20 World Cup 2022. And then he led the side in the final of WTC 2023 against Australia.
Now, former skipper Sourav Ganguly has pointed out the reason why India has not done well in ICC tournaments in the recent past.
"We don't perform well sometimes, in crucial phases. I don't feel it is mental pressure, but all about execution. They are mentally strong people. Hopefully, they will cross the line soon," said Sourav Ganguly on RevSportz.
He said that reaching the final of the WTC 2023 was a big achievement and has hopes that Rohit Sharma will win the World Cup to end the ICC trophy drought for India.
"Yes, yes, always hopeful. At least we qualified for the finals of the WTC, which is also an achievement. And yes, we have a chance. We have got good players, plenty of them. Hopefully, we will do it this time.
Just win it. He has won five IPLs, which is not easy also. So hopefully, he can do it for India in this World Cup," the former India skipper said.
Indian team is currently in the West Indies prepping for the two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is series which begins on July 12.
