India's star duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma attained another record to their name during the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4s match against Sri Lanka at Colombo's R. Premadasa Stadium on Tuesday.

Kohli and Rohit, who have been part of the Indian team together since 2008, became the fastest pair to complete 5000 runs in ODIs. They achieved this feat in just 86 innings while averaging 62.47, with 18-century and 15 half-century partnerships to their credit. This achievement places them as the eighth-best pair in the history of ODI cricket.

Their highest partnership came in 2018 when the right-handed duo put on a 246-run stand against Australia at Guwahati to chase down a daunting target of 323.

Before the two modern batting greats from India, West Indies legends Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes held the record for the quickest pair to reach 5000 ODI runs in 97 innings.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are also the first Indian non-opening duo to reach 5,000 ODI runs. Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly hold the global record for most runs scored as a pair in one-day internationals. In 176 innings, they scored 8227 runs.

When it comes to individual numbers, Virat Kohli completed 13,000 runs in ODIs during his century knock against Pakistan the other day and Rohit Sharma completed his 10,000 runs in the format during the Sri Lanka match in Colombo.

Kohli has hit 47 centuries and 65 half-centuries to his name in 278 ODIs at an average of 57.62. On the other hand, Rohit has 10,031 runs in 248 ODIs with 30 centuries and 51 half-centuries to his name.
