India captain Rohit Sharma achieved a major milestone during their ongoing Asia Cup 2023 Super 4s match against Sri Lanka in Colombo on September 12, as he completed 10,000 runs in ODI cricket.

Rohit Sharma came into the game needing 22 runs to reach the landmark and started well by winning the toss and opting to bat first. India made one change by bringing in Akshar Patel in place of Shardul Thakur, while Sri Lanka remained unchanged.

The Indian captain was aggressive from the get-go go and in his 80-run opening partnership with Shubman Gill, his partner only made 19 runs before being dismissed.

Rohit Sharma brought up his milestone of 10,000 runs with a six and became the second fastest to the 10,000-run milestone in his 241st innings. The fastest batter to the mark was Virat Kohli, who took only 205 innings to reach the mark.

The Mumbai-based batter is also the sixth Indian after Kohli, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, and Sachin Tendulkar to reach 10,000 runs and the 15th batter overall to the milestone in ODIs.

He looked set for a big one but was undone with a brilliant ball by Dunith Wellalage for 53 runs with 7 fours and 2 sixes.

Rohit now has 10031 runs in 248 matches with 30 centuries to his name and 51 fifties.

The Indian cricket fraternity was all praises for Rohit Sharma as he reached this milestone and lauded him on social media.
