The Indian team is facing off against Pakistan for the second time in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, this time in the Super 4s stage of the tournament, and at the toss, India captain Rohit Sharma revealed that Shreyas Iyer was out of the playing XI due to a niggle.

The first encounter between the arch-rivals in Pallekele was a no result as after India posted 266 runs batting first, Pakistan didn’t get their chance to chase the target as rains washed out the remainder of the play.

Pakistan came into this match having defeated Bangladesh in the first encounter of Super 4s in Lahore. Babar Azam called correctly to win the toss and chose to bowl first. Pakistan didn’t make any change in their playing XI.

For India, Rohit Sharma revealed that there were two changes, as Jasprit Bumrah returned to the side in place of Mohammad Shami and KL Rahul made his return to the side in place of Shreyas Iyer.

Rohit revealed that “Shreyas Iyer just got a back spasm so KL Rahul comes in for him.

This is one concerning matter for the Indian team as Iyer had already missed a lot of matches including the IPL 2023 as he struggled with the back issues earlier this year. He underwent surgery to rectify the issue and made his return to the Indian side against Pakistan in Pallekele and made 14 runs.

The India team sheet for the Pakistan match showed KL Rahul wasn't originally part of the XI; he replaced Shreyas Iyer who suffered a back spasm during the pre-match warm-ups.

Him getting injured once again is concerning for the Indian team, as he was also named in India’s World Cup squad as well.

Meanwhile the social media platform X, Indian team fans were reacting to the news of Shreyas Iyer getting a back spasm before the start of the match and shared their thoughts as well.
