Team India registered a resounding 101-run victory over Afghanistan in their last Asia Cup 2022 Super-4 clash at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday (September 8).

Asked to bat first, India rode on former skipper Virat Kohli’s maiden T20I ton (122* off 61 balls) to pile up a massive 212/2 on the board.

Amid the carnage, off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman returned with economical bowling figures of 0/29 in his four overs for Afghanistan.

In reply, Afghanistan were restricted to a paltry 111/8 in their allotted 20 overs. It was a listless batting display as most of them fell for a single-digit score. Ibrahim Zadran was the lone fighter with the bat, scoring 64 not out off 59 balls.

For India, seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the wrecker-in-chief with the ball as he claimed a five-wicket haul (5/4) in his four overs. It was his second five-fer in the shortest format of the game.

Despite the thumping victory, India won’t be able to play the Asia Cup 2022 final as it came in a dead rubber.

For his stunning bowling display, Bhuvneshwar Kumar garnered rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
