India faced off against Sri Lanka in a must-win match of the Super 4s of the Asia Cup 2022 in Dubai on September 6. India lost to Pakistan in their first match and needs to win their remaining two encounters to qualify for the semis.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, had defeated Afghanistan in their first match of Super 4s and needs a win here to make a claim for the finals. Dasun Shanaka started well by winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. India made one change as R Ashwin came in for Ravi Bishnoi.

India was in trouble early on as Maheesh Theekshana got KL Rahul LBW for 6 and Dilshan Madushanka got Virat Kohli clean bowled for a duck.

But then Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav got together to rebuild the side and Rohit decided to take apart the Sri Lankan bowlers. He hammered 72 in 41 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes, adding 97 runs for the third wicket with Suryakumar.

This was a huge innings for Rohit Sharma, who had been making good scores but hadn’t scored a fifty since his 64 against West Indies in Tarouba.

The Indian cricket fraternity was elated with the way Rohit Sharma played and lauded him on Twitter.
