India and Pakistan last played a bilateral series in 2012-13.
Skipper Rohit Sharma opened about the chance of bilateral series between India and Pakistan. He said that the decision lies in the hands of boards of respective nations. The last time two nations clashed in bilateral series was in 2012 when Pakistan toured India for two T20Is and three ODIs.
However, since then, the two sides only face off in ICC events, and Asia Cup as bilateral series does not occur due to political tensions between the nations.
Many times the issue of bilateral series was raised by the PCB with BCCI reciprocating by saying it depends on government approval as well.

PCB Chairman Rameez Raja had recently proposed an idea about a quadrilateral T20I series involving Australia and England along with India and Pakistan but that wasn’t considered. Many players have also expressed their desire to play against each other.
The two nations will now play on Sunday (28th August) in their opening clash of the Asia Cup 2022.
During the pre-match press conference, Rohit Sharma was asked about the bilateral series between India and Pakistan. He replied that it’s not in the hands of cricketers and decision depends upon the boards of both sides.
“If I had the option to answer this question, I would have given it. Respectable boards make these decisions. This is not in our hands but if boards decide to play, then we will play," Rohit Sharma said.
