The upcoming Asia Cup 2022 would have Team India as the front-runner for the coveted title. Rohit Sharma is set to lead the Indian team at the Asia Cup 2022, which begins on Saturday (August 27), following victories in the T20I series against England and West Indies.

They will begin their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday (August 28) at the Dubai International Stadium.

Rohit's biggest challenge in the multi-team tournament was brought up by former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar on Star Sports’ show "Follow the Blues."

"Rohit Sharma's biggest challenge in this Asia Cup I feel is some of the players who have not played regularly for the Indian team because of different-different reasons - it could be fitness or like Virat Kohli took a break, he is also making a comeback. KL Rahul had gotten injured," Bangar said.

He also emphasized that the defending champions will be without Jasprit Bumrah's services this time around.

"Jasprit Bumrah is also not playing this tournament. So how he manages the bowling in Jasprit Bumrah's absence because Jasprit Bumrah is an extremely important element in India's bowling. So I feel these will be the small challenges in front of Rohit Sharma," he added.

This year's tournament will feature the T20 format, as opposed to the ODI format that was used for the previous one. The six teams are split into two groups: Group A includes India, Pakistan, and a qualifying team while Group B has Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

In the group stage, each team plays the other once, with the top two sides from each group moving on to the Super 4 round. The top two teams from the Super 4 will advance to the finals.
