Younis had said that Shaheen's absence from tournament is relief for India batters.
The left-arm pacer suffered a right knee ligament injury and was advised 4-6 weeks of rest by the medical team. His absence will be a huge setback for Pakistan as they are all set to clash with arch-rivals India on 28th August in their opening match of Asia Cup 2022.
Shaheen had helped Pakistan beat India in the T20 World Cup 2021 at the same venue by removing three big wickets of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli, which was their first win over Men in Blue in World Cup matches.

Therefore, Waqar Younis took to Twitter and shared his opinion that Shaheen’s absence is a huge relief for Indian top-order batters. He tweeted: “Shaheen’s injury Big relief for the Indian top order batsmen. Sad we won’t be seeing him in #AsiaCup2022 Get fit soon Champ @iShaheenAfridi.”
He was immediately ridiculed for his comment on social media by Indian fans and now former India cricketers Irfan Pathan and Wasim Jaffer have joined in the party.
Irfan Pathan pointed out how other teams are relieved that ace India bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel will miss the Asia Cup due to their respective injuries. Bumrah suffered a back injury, while Harshal is dealing with a rib and side strain issue.
