Sooryavanshi played an explosive knock in the first T20I against Zimbabwe.
The 15-year-old failed to make a mark in his debut T20I series against England earlier this month, registering scores of 14, 13 and 15.
However, Sooryavanshi silenced his critics by blasting his maiden international half-century off just 18 balls against Zimbabwe in the first T20I at Harare Sports Club on Thursday (July 23).
"You do doubt yourself when you don't score runs, but you should back your game. Viru (Sehwag) would do the same, and I am sure Vaibhav will keep the same fearless approach irrespective of what form he is going through. If he is playing well, he is anyway dangerous, but even if he is not scoring, he should back his game knowing how he scores. That is something that is very likeable about him," Jaffer said in a video on his YouTube channel.
"It was expected from Sooryavanshi. It was surprising that he did not do well in England. But this was expected and good to see. It is like getting that monkey off the back. When you perform at the start, the pressure gets off a bit, otherwise, that question mark is there no matter how good you are. Hopefully we see some consistent performances from him," he added.
While Sooryavanshi has taken the cricketing world by storm with his explosive performances in T20 cricket, Jaffer reckoned that adapting to longer formats will be the ultimate test of his career progression.
"I think it will be slightly challenging for him. He did do well on that emerging tour and U-19 World Cup. Questioning his credentials will be foolish, but it will be challenging, especially the first ten overs. He has not batted a lot. It would be interesting. We have to see if he plays the Vijay Hazare and how he approaches the first ten overs, and whether he has the adaptability after those ten overs. Similarly, when he plays the Ranji Trophy, we have to see how he performs. It will be a challenge to see how this season goes for him," he stated.
Jaffer also highlighted how Sooryavanshi showed maturity in the IPL 2026 season. "He did show adaptability in this IPL, where he was a bit cautious when early wickets fell, he paced the innings, and it does look like he has that intelligence. Bihar has come to the Elite group now and will play against good teams (Ranji), so it will be exciting to see how he performs in this domestic season."
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will be next in action during the third T20I against Zimbabwe, scheduled for Sunday (January 26) in Harare.
