Pakistan have now gone 11 consecutive Tests at home without a win.
Pakistan suffered another humiliating defeat on home soil in the longest format as England hammered them by an innings and 47 runs in the Multan Test on Friday (October 11).
In reply to Pakistan’s first innings total of 556, the visitors racked up a mammoth 823/7 (declared) on the board thanks to Harry Brook’s triple century (317) and Joe Root’s double hundred (262).
Responding to England’s huge lead of 267 runs, the hosts were bowled out for 220 in the morning session on the final day to concede a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series.
This was Pakistan’s fourth consecutive Test loss against England at home after a 3-0 whitewash two years ago, which led to strong reactions from their fans and former players alike.
Ex-Pakistan batter Basit Ali launched a scathing attack on the team, support staff and the cricket board for their failure across departments.
"These foreign coaches, management are making a fool of us. Back-biting is being openly done in this current system. This person did this, this person did that. No one comes here on the basis of merit. There is too much of favouritism and the hurtful thing is the spread of lies. Speak lies and get your work done," Basit said while speaking on his YouTube channel.
"Sharmnaak shikast (embarrassing defeat). Pakistan Cricket board have closed their eyes. Let it happen, whatever is happening. Bas Champions Trophy ho jaye Pakistan me. First, uplift and get your cricket better," he added.
The Multan Test defeat marked Pakistan's sixth consecutive loss under Shan Masood’s captaincy. His tenure begun with 3-0 whitewash in Australia, followed by a 2-0 series sweep against Bangladesh at home.
The pressure on the Masood-led side is at an all-time high and they will be desperate to change their fortunes in the second Test against England set to begin from October 15 at the same venue.
