Ponting foretold how Nathan Lyon would pick Jansen’s wicket.
On Saturday (December 17), Ponting predicted Marco Jansen’s dismissal from the commentary box during the opening day of the first Test between Australia and South Africa at Gabba.
With South Africa reeling at 132/5, Ponting foretold how veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon would pick Jansen’s wicket. Much to the viewers' delight, the Proteas pacer got out in the same manner.
“Talk about the build-up of pressure that Mitchell Starc has created on Jansen,” Ponting said on Channel 7.
“Quite often it can have an effect that the wicket will fall at the other end. Nathan Lyon is halfway through his fourth over. Only given up the eight runs, they’ve got mid-on three-quarters of the way back. They are tempting him with a build-up of pressure to try and hit over the top.”
As it turned out, Jansen stepped out of the crease to take on Lyon in the very next ball. He slogged the delivery over mid-wicket but failed to get the desired connection as the ball went up in the air. Cameron Green took an easy catch to complete the dismissal of Jansen on just 2.
With his accurate prediction, the former Australia skipper once again left the Twitterati stunned.
