The Indian team left for the UK on Thursday, June 16, from Mumbai without their regular skipper, Rohit Sharma, which raised questions over his fitness and his availability for the rescheduled Test against England to be played at Edgbaston Stadium from July 1, 2022.

Notably, this Test match was postponed last year due to COVID-19 concerns and is scheduled to be played next month before Team India kickstarts their white-ball campaign in England. The Indian team is leading in the five-match Test series with a 2-1 margin against England.

Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Cheteshwar Pujara, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shardul Thakur left for the UK on Thursday to begin preparations for the Test match. However, the absence of Rohit left many puzzled. R Ashwin wasn’t also seen with the team.

Amid the concerns over the Indian captain’s fitness, Sports Today claimed that Rohit is completely fit and will travel with the white-ball specialists and a few other Test players, including Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Ashwin, from Bengaluru on June 20, 2022.

Notably, Iyer and Pant are currently playing in the five-match T20I series against South Africa at home, which will conclude on June 19. The hosts are currently trailing by 1-2 against South Africa in the series.
