Former Indian all-rounder Mohinder Amarnath believes that the International Cricket Council (ICC) should introduce neutral curators for the next World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

He further recalled India's day-night Test against England in Ahmedabad and said the games finishing in two days are not fair competition while suggesting the ICC to form a panel of neutral curators to ensure the Test matches go into the fifth day to decide the winner in the WTC.

Amarnath told PTI on Friday (June 25): “You should play on quality wickets. When you play on quality wickets, it doesn't matter where you are playing. Then it is a fair competition. The ICC should form a panel of neutral curators like they have for neutral umpires. That team should follow the ICC guidelines and ensure the game goes into the fifth day.”

He also believes that the ICC should look into the rule to determine the winner if the WTC Final ended in a draw or tie in the next cycle, as according to the current rule, the WTC Mace will be shared by the teams if the game ends in a draw or tie.

The former Indian cricketer, “A final means there can't be any joint winners in any sport. Whether it is one game or a best of three final. They have to complete the final.”

Hardik Pandya has been left out of the Test team due to his inability to bowl regularly and India needs an all-rounder like Lala Amarnath and Kapil Dev for the longest format and the 70-year-old said it is the toughest to produce such legends but hopes someone will come out.

He signed off by saying, “They don't come just like that. They come once in a decade or once in 20 years. I am sure somebody will come but it will come from the longer version of the game.”
