Kane Williamson’s New Zealand side completely outplayed Virat Kohli’s Team India as the Kiwis won the inaugural final of the World Test Championship (WTC) at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton comfortably by 8 wickets.

Australia's David Warner hailed NZ captain Kane Williamson for a fantastic win as well as credited Virat Kohli for fighting till the very end as not only was the game really exciting for the fans but also was a good advertisement for Test cricket.

“Are the IPL going to reduce the year of the final”, Vaughan dismisses Kohli's idea of best-of-three finals for WTC

Credit to these two fantastic leaders! A great hard fought game, even with a bit of weather about there was an eventual winner and that was NZ. Awesome for test cricket!! Well done to @kane_s_w and his team for being the victors of the WTC. #cricket #sport #india #nz,Warner wrote on Instagram.

Former South Africa wicket-keeper batsman AB de Villiers also congratulated New Zealand for winning the ‘Ultimate Test’ and thanked both sides for producing a great Test match that did really well to promote the longest format.

It was a pleasure watching the Test Championship final and I feel both teams did incredibly well to promote the format for what it really is, the ultimate test! Congrats @newzealandcrick with the win. Hard lines India, but I know @imVkohli and his men will bounce back,” de Villiers wrote on Twitter.
