New Zealand won the ICC World Test Championship final by beating Team India.
The New Zealand cricket team won the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) by beating India in the final on Wednesday (June 23). They had suffered heartbreak in the ICC 2019 World Cup at Lord's after losing the final on the basis of boundary count.
But this time the Kiwis returned to the English soil and secured an ICC title under the leadership of Kane Williamson. The official Twitter account of Blackcaps posted the video of the dressing room celebration during the winning moment.
"Significant dates! ✍???? #WTC21 #BACKTHEBLACKCAPS," they wrote while sharing the moment. The Kiwi cricketers were jumping in joy after the winning run was hit by Ross Taylor.
New Zealand were chasing a fourth-innings target of 139 and they won the match by 8 wickets. Williamson scored unbeaten 52 runs and Taylor added 47 not out to avoid finishing on the losing side in the ICC tournament final.
Earlier on the reserve day, the Kiwi pacers put on an outstanding display of bowling to give themselves a winning chance in the match. The match was tilted towards a draw with only three sessions of play left and India starting the day with 8 wickets in hand.
However, New Zealand bowlers troubled the Indian middle-order and bowled them out cheaply despite the batting conditions being better than before. Virat Kohli and co got bundled out on 170 runs and with more than a session of play left, New Zealand believed they have a good opportunity and chased down the target.
