New Zealand pacer Tim Southee has surpassed former Australia captain Ricky Ponting in the list of most sixes by a batsman in Test cricket. On Tuesday (June 22), Southee scored valuable 30 runs off 46 deliveries for his team in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final.

Southee, who hit a couple of sixes in his knock, is now just three sixes behind MS Dhoni. While the Kiwi cricketer has hit 75 sixes, Dhoni had smashed 78 sixes in the 90 Test matches he played for India.

The list is topped by Southee's ex-teammate, Brendon McCullum, who has hit 107 sixes in 101 Test matches, and Adam Gilchrist is at number two with 100 sixes, followed by Chris Gayle (98 sixes).

While ex-South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis features at number four with 97 sixes, former India opener Virender Sehwag is at number five in the list with 91 sixes.

Southee has already left the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, AB de Villiers, Sanath Jayasuriya, and Kapil Dev behind in the list.

Not only with the bat, but the 32-year-old pacer has also come good with the ball in the second innings against India. He bagged two wickets before the stumps on Day 5 as India scored 64/2. Southee could only pick one wicket in the first innings.
