Smith, who first occupied the top position in June 2015, leads the chart with 911 rating points while Kohli is second with 906.

Apart from Virat, there are three India batsmen in the top 10 namely Ajinkya Rahane (8th), Cheteshwar Pujara (9th) and Mayank Agarwal (10th).

In the latest rankings released by the ICC, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson (3rd) has gained 31 points after his innings of 89 at Basin Reserve against the highly-rated Indian bowling attack.

New Zealand’s Ross Taylor and Colin Grandhomme have also made a jump in the batsmen’s list while pacers Tim Southee and Trent Boult have made big gains after finishing with nine and five wickets, respectively.

Southee has leapfrogged eight spots to claim sixth position while Boult has advanced four slots to take joint-13th position.

In the updated rankings, that also includes the one-off Test between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in Mirpur, Mushfiqur Rahim has moved up five places to return to the top 20 after his epic double ton which helped the hosts complete an innings and 106 runs victory. Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque has also risen five places to 39th after a score of 132.

Having bagged nine wickets in the Test, Bangladesh off-spinner Nayeem Hasan gained 29 places to 38th position among bowlers. Craig Ervine, who was the top-scorer for Zimbabwe in both innings, made progress of 15 places to 42nd spot.
