Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma is advocating for more Test matches for the Indian women’s cricket team after their back-to-back historic wins over England and Australia.

Harmanpreet Kaur-led India Women recently won both one-off tests against England and Australia on home soil. After these historic Test wins, Rohit, who is currently leading Team India in the Test series in South Africa, revealed that many men’s players were watching the women's Test matches.

Rohit said that several Indian players were watching and supporting the Indian women’s team by watching their fixtures live inside their hotel rooms. The Indian skipper also backed having more Test matches for women’s cricket in the near future.

Rohit Sharma said at the press conference in Centurion: I loved watching them play in the last two Test matches. It’s pretty heartening to see how they are playing Test cricket. I saw the passion in everyone’s face and their body language after the win. It’s good to see that people still want to play Tests, be it men’s or women’s cricket. I hope they go from strength to strength and get to play more Tests in the future, because that is what challenges you. I’m sure you’ll get to see the women’s team play more Test cricket in the future.”

Notably, India Women recently recorded their first-ever Test victory over Australia with an eight-wicket win in the recent one-off Test match. They also recently defeated England by a massive 347-run margin at the DY Patil Stadium earlier this month.

On the other hand, Team India is currently taking on South Africa in the first Test of the two-match series in Centurion.
