CSK among IPL franchises who chose to stay away from bidding for WIPL teams- Report

The bidding for WIPL franchises will be held on Wednesday, January 25.

A couple of high-profile franchises like Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans have refrained from bidding for a team in the upcoming Women’s IPL (WIPL) while about half a dozen IPL franchises submitted have formally submitted expressions of interest, a report suggested.

As per a report in Cricbuzz, on the day of the technical bids for the WIPL, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, SunRisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore have shown up with bid documents.

However, CSK and GT decided not to stake a claim for a WIPL team. Lucknow Super Giants are also believed to have stayed away but there was no immediate confirmation on Punjab Kings. However, the report stated that the Punjab side too was at the designated venue with the bid papers.

While the confirmed list of interested entities is yet to be released, big corporate houses like the Adani Group and Torrent Pharma have expressed interest, while others like Uday Kotak, Chettinad Cement, JK Cement, AWL Appollo, Nilgiri, and Haldiram, who had taken the Invitation To Tender (ITT) document.  

Those who meet the criteria set by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be eligible to participate in the financial bidding which will be on Wednesday. The key requirement is INR 1000 crore net worth clause.
