The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given a big update about the Women's IPL a few days after the Indian women's cricket team won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had earlier confirmed that the board had planned to start the Women's IPL (WIPL) from 2023. He also added that the preparations for the league were underway.

Meanwhile, the BCCI Annual General Meeting will be held in September, where all the topics related to the WIPL will be discussed and important decisions will be taken. The main focus will be on the sale of media rights in preparation for the WIPL.

According to ESPNCricinfo, the BCCI has made changes to its women's domestic cricket calendar to fit the WIPL. The women's season generally goes on from November to April, but it has been advanced by a month. The season will now start on October 11 with a T20 competition, while the season will end in February 2023 with an inter-zonal ODI competition, and WIPL will be held in March 2023.

On the other hand, BCCI secretary Jay Shah recently revealed that existing IPL franchises and stakeholders have shown interest in buying teams in the Women's IPL (WIPL).

Notably, the owners of Rajasthan Royals and the Knight Riders Group have publicly expressed interest in buying franchises in the WIPL, as the existing IPL franchises will reportedly be given priority to buy teams in the Women's T20 competition, but they are yet to receive any official word from the BCCI.
