The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday, August 11, surprised one and all by replacing Shikhar Dhawan with KL Rahul as India's captain for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, starting on August 18.

Taking to Twitter, the BCCI announced that Rahul had cleared the fitness test and is set to lead India in the upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe. He was earlier struggling to retain fitness, which prompted the national selectors to pick Dhawan as captain for Zimbabwe.

Now, BCCI’s announcement didn’t go down well with many Indian cricket fans. They are happy with Rahul’s inclusion for the ODI series, as it will provide the right-hander some game time before the Asia Cup 2022, as he hasn’t played a competitive match since the end of the IPL 2022.

But the fans are baffled by the BCCI’s decision to demote the senior player, Dhawan, as the vice-captain and make Rahul the captain for the Zimbabwe tour.

Here’s the revised India squad for 3 ODIs against Zimbabwe:

KL Rahul (Captain) Shikhar Dhawan (vice-captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohd Siraj, Deepak Chahar.
