Kuldeep Yadav picked 10 wickets in 5 games in T20 World Cup.
India wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav has dedicated the T20 World Cup 2024 win to captain Rohit Sharma. India defeated South Africa in the final of the competition in Barbados on June 29 and ended their wait for an ICC trophy since 2013.
This was India’s second T20 World Cup win as well, joining England and West Indies as the teams with multiple titles.
After the T20 World Cup win, India captain Rohit Sharma, ace batter Virat Kohli, and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja retired from the format, handing the reins over to the next generation.
Kuldeep Yadav played a huge role in India’s title win as he played all the games in the West Indies leg and picked 10 wickets in the five matches that he played. Kuldeep dedicated the trophy to Rohit, who retired from T20Is after the thrilling final against South Africa which India won by six runs in Barbados.
“This World Cup was for him, the way he planned and the way he loved this team. The intent and approach that he used to talk about in team meetings, he implemented that in the tournament while batting, led from the front. So this trophy is for him,” Kuldeep told Sports Today.
"There is probably no better feeling than this. In the final Virat bhai hit the 70-odd runs and won the player of the match. I am sure he will be very happy with his career in the T20 format, same for Rohit bhai. Jadeja as well, he played such brilliant cricket over the years,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav also spoke about the experience of the open bus parade and the felicitation ceremony the victorious Indian team received at the Wankhede Stadium.
“I'll never forget it. It was the first time I experienced something like that. Rohit bhai probably experienced that earlier as he had won in 2007. What happened in Mumbai was just unreal for me,” said Kuldeep about the night in Mumbai.
