South Africa qualified for their maiden T20 World Cup final as they decimated Afghanistan in the first semi-final of the ongoing tournament in Trinidad on June 27, 2024.

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan won the toss and chose to bat first. However, the pitch had both lateral movement and bounce for Proteas bowlers to exploit, and Afghan batters had no answer to them.

Only Azmatullah Omarzai reached double figures, scoring 10 runs, as Afghanistan was bowled out for 56 in 11.5 overs. Marco Jansen and Tabraiz Shamsi picked three wickets each, while Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje took two scalps.

Though Fazalhaq Farooqi dismissed Quinton de Kock for 5 runs, Reeza Hendricks (29*) and captain Aiden Markram (23*) made sure no more causalities happened as South Africa won by 9 wickets and 67 balls remaining.

Marco Jansen was named the Player of the Match as South Africa made it into their maiden T20 World Cup final. They will face the winner of the second semi-final between India and England, to be played in Guyana.

The cricket fraternity was all praises for the clinical performance by South Africa and cheered their entrance into the final.
