Virat Kohli fell for a duck early on to Josh Hazlewood, but Rohit Sharma went after the Australian bowlers. Sharma completed a brilliant fifty in just 19 balls with 4 fours and 5 sixes. Rishabh Pant made a quick 15 and then Suryakumar Yadav made 31 on 16 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes.
Rohit Sharma made an exciting 92 in 41 balls with 7 fours and 8 sixes to his name. Shivam Dube (28) and Hardik Pandya (27*) did some damage in death overs as India posted 205/5 in 20 overs.
In reply, Travis Head led the chase for Australia with 76 in 43 balls, while Mitchell Marsh made 37 runs. Glenn Maxwell also made 20 runs, but the Indian bowlers made a good comeback despite Head and Marsh's partnership for the second wicket.
Arshdeep Singh took 3/37, while Kuldeep Yadav picked 2/24 as Australia only managed 181/7 in 20 overs. Rohit Sharma was named the Player of the Match for his stupendous 92-run knock. s
Australia’s chances for the semi-finals will now depend on the result of the Afghanistan v Bangladesh match. India has qualified for the semi-final and will face England at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on June 27.
