Rohit Sharma took the Australia bowling attack to the cleaners in St Lucia.
Rohit Sharma put on a show with the bat in India’s Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2024 against Australia in St Lucia on Monday (June 24).
Invited to bat first, the Men in Blue lost Virat Kohli for a five-ball duck in the second over. Despite the loss of an early wicket, Rohit launched a brutal assault on the Australian bowling attack.
The Indian skipper made his intention clear in the third over itself as he smashed Mitchell Starc for four sixes and a boundary. Rohit continued his carnage from there on and all the Aussie bowlers were taken to the cleaners.
The right-handed opener brought up his half-century off 19 balls - the fastest fifty of this T20 World Cup. He added 87 runs for the second wicket with Rishabh Pant, who got out in the 8th over after scoring 15 off 14 balls.
After Pant’s dismissal, Rohit was joined by Suryakumar Yadav in the middle. The duo put on 34 runs for the third wicket before the Indian captain was dismissed by Starc for a spectacular knock of 92 from 41 deliveries, including seven boundaries and eight sixes.
At the time of Sharma’s dismissal, India were 127/2 after 11.2 overs. They were well placed to rack up 200+ runs on the board.
For his whirlwind batting display, Rohit Sharma was lauded by the cricket fraternity on social media platform X.
