India will open their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Ireland on June 5.
The selectors prioritized experience over rookie IPL performers as they included veteran campaigners like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the squad.
Rohit has been named the skipper of the side, also featuring Suryakumar Yadav. Despite the scrutiny over his form and bowling fitness, all-rounder Hardik Pandya made it to the T20 World Cup squad as vice-captain.
Young left-handed batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has been picked in the team ahead of Shubman Gill. Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant are the two designated wicketkeepers in the squad as the selectors overlooked KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan.
Shivam Dube was also rewarded with a place in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad for his impressive display in the ongoing IPL season for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are the two premier spinners in the side, while Ravindra Jadeja and Akshar Patel feature in the team as spin all-rounders.
Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh are the three specialist fast bowlers in the 15-member squad.
Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan have been included in the side as standby players.
