Rohit Sharma was speaking the launch of his cricket academy in USA.
The 36-year-old right-handed batter is the second-leading run-getter in T20Is and also holds the world record for scoring the highest number in the shortest format of the game- four.
But ever since India’s embarrassing 10-wicket defeat in the T20 World Cup semifinal, Rohit and Virat Kohli haven’t played any T20I matches.
Hardik Pandya has taken over from him in the shortest format as captain of the Indian team, and has victories over New Zealand at home and away, against Sri Lanka at home and is currently leading the side in the ongoing five-T20I series against the West Indies.
Given that both Rohit and Kohli have not played T20Is for almost an year, it has been speculated that the BCCI selection panel has moved on from them towards youngsters in the shortest format of the game.
However, during a media interaction during the launch of his cricket academy in USA, the right-handed batter said that he is looking forward to visiting the country for next year’s T20 World Cup.
"More than just going and enjoying, there is another reason to come here (in the USA). Because you know the World Cup is coming. In June, there will be the T20 World Cup (2024) happening in this part of the world. So, I'm pretty sure everyone is excited. So yaa, we look forward to that," Rohit can be heard saying.
Rohit, who made his T20I debut for India on September 19, 2007, during India’s match against England in the T20 World Cup at Kingsmead, Durban, is the only cricketer in history to have played in all eight editions of the T20 World Cup till date.
