Pakistan captain Babar Azam has failed to impress both as a batter and a leader so far in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Following Pakistan’s struggle in the tournament, many former cricketers, including Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar, have been criticizing Babar and his captaincy.

While Babar’s bat remained silent on Australian soil, the Pakistan team is on the verge of being eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2022 early, having very little chance of making it to the semifinals following two early defeats against India and Zimbabwe and then Team India’s five-wicket loss to South Africa in the Super 12 matches.

Well now, the former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir lashed out at Babar during the commentary of Pakistan's match against the Netherlands and called him a selfish captain.

He said that Babar is only thinking about himself, not the team, as he cannot be a good leader.

Gambhir said on-air: “In my opinion, first, you think about your team instead of yourself; if nothing goes according to your plan, you should have sent Fakhar Zaman up the batting order. This is called selfishness; as a captain, it is easy to be selfish. It is easy for Babar and Rizwan to open the innings for Pakistan and create so many records. If you want to be a leader, you have to think about your team.”

Notably, Pakistan's next Super 12 match against South Africa on November 3 is a must-win game and all focus will be on Babar's captaincy, as he will be aiming to find his form and a win to remain in the race for the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2022.
