South Africa enjoyed the extra pace and bounce on offer in Perth as they handed India a five-wicket defeat on Sunday (October 30) to top the points table in Group 2. This victory also means they now have one foot in the semifinals as one more win should be enough for them to go through.

India won the toss and opted to bat first as South Africa made the most of the helpful conditions to reduce the 'Men in Blue' to 49/5 in the 8th over. It took a special knock from Suryakumar Yadav of 68 in 40 balls to help India finish their innings with a competitive score of 133/9. Lungi Ngidi (4/29) and Wayne Parnell (3/15) were the most successful Protea bowlers.

South Africa were dented early by Arshdeep Singh and Mohammad Shami, as they were in a spot of bother at 40/3 in 10 overs before Aiden Markram and David Miller launched a brilliant counterattack that left the Indian bowlers a bit deflated.

However, India had their opportunities in the field and in particular the 12th and 13th over, but Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma fluffed them both to give life to Markram twice. Eventually, he made the Indians pay for their lapses scoring 52. Miller remained not out on 59 as South Africa completed the 5-wicket win with two balls to spare.
