India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. The Men in Blue lost KL Rahul (9) cheaply but Rohit stepped up to the plate on this occasion, scoring 53 off 39 balls.
The Indian captain was involved in a 73-run partnership with Virat Kohli, who cut loose after the former’s dismissal in the 12th over.
In the company of Suryakumar Yadav, Kohli started hitting boundaries regularly and completed his half-century during the 17th over off 37 balls.
As usual, Surya dazzled everyone with his range of strokes and went on to notch up his fifty in just 25 balls. The pair shared an unbeaten 95-run stand, propelling India to 179/2 in 20 overs.
While Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 62 off 44 balls (3 fours and 2 sixes), Suryakumar Yadav returned with 51 not out off 25 balls (7 fours and 1 six).
For their stunning half-centuries in India’s innings, Kohli, Rohit and Surya received praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
