The T20 World Cup 2022 will be played in Australia in October-November this year and most teams have begun preparing for the same from now onwards. India’s road to the ICC event began with the South Africa T20I series at home.

India will have a lot of time to decide on their combination as they play T20Is against Ireland, England, and West Indies, and then in the Asia Cup as well. India also has a lot of options to choose from in all positions whether it is batting, keeping, spinners, or fast bowlers.

Keeping this in mind,  Team COC presents to you the probable Team India squad for T20 World Cup 2022.

IND v SA 2022: Team India breaks Australia’s record; remains unbeaten in 9th consecutive T20I series at home

Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Ishan Kishan are expected to be the opening options for the Indian team in the T20 World Cup. While Rohit Sharma will captain the team and KL Rahul is expected to be his deputy, the duo are also the first choice openers for the Indian team, with Kishan as the backup opener.

Virat Kohli might not be having a good time with the bat, but his numbers in T20Is and T20s along with his performance in Australia require him to be included in the Indian squad. Apart from him, the other spots might be up for grabs for Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav in the top half of the batting order.

However, Suryakumar Yadav might have the upper hand with his 360-degree style of batting while Shreyas Iyer has shown a visible vulnerability against extreme pace bowling, and in Australia, where the pitches will provide bounce and pace to the speedsters, Iyer might find himself at a disadvantage.

Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik, and Hardik Pandya may be the middle-order options for the Indian team along with the likes of Deepak Hooda in the fray as well, as they all can hit the long ball and are excellent fielders as well. Pant and Karthik are expected to be the keeping options while Karthik and Pandya will be the finishers.

The spin options will come in handy for the Indian team in Australia’s big grounds and expect Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin to be accompanied by Yuzvendra Chahal. Other spinners in consideration are Ravi Bishnoi, and Kuldeep Yadav, as both bring different styles of wrist spin to the table.

But the main factors for success in Australia for India are expected to be the fast bowlers and India has plenty to choose from. The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, if he remains fit till the T20 World Cup, Jasprit Bumrah, and Harshal Patel pick themselves thanks to their versatilities with the ball both in the powerplay overs and in the death.

Other pacers in the fray are Umran Malik and Avesh Khan for extreme pace options while Mohammad Shami brings in the experience and good use of the new ball in powerplay overs. India may also consider left-arm pace options like Arshdeep Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Chetan Sakariya, and T Natarajan as well.
