Mohammad Rizwan was the top scorer for Pakistan against Australia in the semi-final.
Former India cricketer VVS Laxman applauded the Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan for setting an example of courage and determination. Rizwan spent two nights in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), battling severe chest infection, before taking the field for his country against Australia in the T20 World Cup semi-final match.
Pakistan team doctor Najeeb Somroo revealed the details in the post-match press conference after the side’s exit from the tournament. They lost the match after the Aussies chased down a target of 177 runs with 6 balls left and 5 wickets in hand.
"A great example of courage, determination, and resilience. Might not have ended up on the winning side, but Mohd. Rizwan’s grit and fight after being in ICU for two days, truly inspiring. Sport is a great teacher and there is so much to learn from everyone," tweeted Laxman.
Apart from Laxman, ex-Pakistan cricketers Shoaib Akhtar and Waqar Younis also praised Rizwan and called him a 'Hero' and 'Warrior' for his dedication towards Pakistan cricket.
"Can you imagine this guy played for his country today & gave his best? He was in the hospital last two days. Massive respect @iMRizwanPak. Hero," tweeted Akhtar.
Rizwan was the top scorer for his team in the semi-final match against Australia in the T20 World Cup 2021. He scored 67 runs off 52 deliveries and stitched up a partnership of 71 runs for the first wicket with his opening partner Babar Azam.
