Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar heaped praise on Pakistan captain Babar Azam for his brilliant captaincy in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE.

Azam has excelled both as a batter and a captain as the right-hander has amassed over 300 runs as well as taken Pakistan to the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

Notably, Pakistan was unbeaten in the league stages of the T20 World Cup 2021 before the 5-wicket defeat in the semi-final against Australia on November 11.

The former Indian captain was extremely impressed by the way Babar led Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2021 and said the star cricketer was going to become one of the all-time greats of the game and one of the greatest captains that Pakistan has ever produced.

Gavaskar wrote for Khaleej Times, “There is no doubt that Babar if he keeps himself fit and motivated, is going to become one of the all-time greats of the game. What he can become is also one of the greatest captains that Pakistan has produced.”

He also credited Babar's leadership for Pakistan's exceptional outing in the T20 World Cup 2021. The Indian batting great also hailed the Pakistan team’s temperament in the tournament while describing their current players as calm and game-aware.

Gavaskar further mentioned, “His reading of the game situation is brilliant and the changes that he has been making with the bowling and field placing have been unbelievably accurate.”

He signed off by saying, “Pakistan has always been a mercurial side with some of the most naturally talented cricketers in the game. What has pulled them back is an excitable temperament. This time with Babar Azam leading them they are a lot calmer and a lot more game-aware team.”
