Afghanistan thrashed Scotland by 130 runs in their opening game of the T20 World Cup.
Opting to bat first, Afghanistan piled up a massive 190/4 in 20 overs on the back of Najibullah Zadran’s 34-ball 59 and significant contributions from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (46) and Hazratullah Zazai (44).
In the second half, Afghanistan spinners Mujeeb Ur Rahman (5-20) and Rashid Khan (4-9) ran through the Scotland batting line-up to bowl them out for a mere 60 in 10 overs.
Apart from Afghanistan’s dominance with both bat and ball, the match also grabbed headlines for an emotional moment, involving Mohammad Nabi.
During the national anthem, the Afghanistan captain broke down and his teary eyes left the cricket fans around the world emotional as well.
Notably, Afghanistan is going through a tough time for the past few months due to the takeover by the Taliban.
In fact, Afghanistan’s participation in the showpiece tournament was also in doubt amid the recent chaos in the country, and Nabi’s raw emotions showed the world just what the moment meant to him and his team.
