Afghanistan opened their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign in a grand fashion as they annihilated Scotland by 130 runs at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Monday (October 25).

Opting to bat first, Afghanistan piled up a massive 190/4 in 20 overs on the back of Najibullah Zadran’s 34-ball 59 and significant contributions from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (46) and Hazratullah Zazai (44).

Amid the carnage, Safyaan Sharif (2-33) and Mark Watt (1-23) returned with impressive bowling figures of Scotland.

In reply, Scotland got bowled out for a mere 60 in 10 overs. It was an embarrassing performance with the bat, to say the least. George Munsey was the top scorer with 25.

For Afghanistan, off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman and star leg-spinner Rashid Khan wreaked havoc with the ball. While Mujeeb claimed a five-wicket haul by conceding only 20 runs in his four-over quota, Rashid returned with the figures of 4 for 9 in his 2.2 overs.

For their flawless outing with the bat and ball, Afghanistan team received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
