Women’s T20WC 2020: "We will be taking Sri Lanka seriously," says Harmanpreet Kaur despite semis qualification

The Indian team has won all their games and Sri Lanka have lost both of theirs.

The Indian women’s cricket team has become the first team in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup to qualify for the semi-finals. However, they will not be shifting their focus to the knockout stage before they have played their last group stage match.

The Indian women will face their Sri Lankan counterparts in their final group stage game on 29 February (Saturday). The Sri Lankans have been winless so far in 2 games and have not looked threatening in the tournament. The Indians would be favorites against them but they don’t want to be complacent.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur said, “I know we have qualified, but the next game is still crucial for us. We will be taking Sri Lanka very seriously. They’ve been doing well. I know they haven’t won a game but they were almost there on both occasions. We will be taking it very seriously before we start thinking about the semi-finals.

The Indian team is looking forward to taking all the wickets on offer in all games. Kaur said that they would like to see the back of Chamari Atapattu early as she is a very dangerous player and team sort of weakens after she is gone.

We try to take every wicket in all of our games. Every wicket is an important one at this level. We just have to try and stick to our plan, especially to get out the likes of Chamari Athapaththu early. That will be crucial,” she said.

The Indian team will top Group A if they manage to win against Sri Lanka and will play the first semi-final on March 5.
