India will face West Indies in a do-or-die Super 8 clash at the Eden Gardens on March 1.
Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has double down on his T20 World Cup 2026 predictions regarding Team India, reiterating that the Suryakumar Yadav-led side wouldn't qualify for the semifinals.
After losing to South Africa by 76 runs, the defending champions are facing a must-win situation in their remaining Super 8 fixtures to make the semis.
India outclassed Zimbabwe by 72 runs; hence, the match against the West Indies on Sunday (March 1) in Kolkata will be a do-or-die contest, with the winner advancing to the final-four stage.
Before the Super 8 phase of the tournament kicked off, Amir had backed South Africa and West Indies to reach semifinals from Group 1, saying that both teams were playing better cricket than India.
Amir's bold prediction came one step closer to being fulfilled after India were hammered by the Proteas in Ahmedabad. However, the Men in Blue kept their semifinal hopes alive by beating Zimbabwe in Chennai.
Speaking of Pakistan, the Salman Ali Agha-led side need a big win against Sri Lanka in their last Super 8 clash on Saturday (February 28) to overtake New Zealand on net run rate and seal a semifinal berth. The Men in Green need to win by more than 64 runs if they bat first. While chasing, they have to overhaul the target with at least 40 deliveries to spare.
Sharing his semifinals prediction once again, Amir said that it doesn't matter whether Pakistan qualify for the knockout stage or not; India won't be able to do so.
“Pakistan will qualify. Dekho, Pakistan kare na kare, India naaaa (It doesn't matter if Pakistan qualifies or not, India will not),” Amir said on ‘Haarna Mana Hai’ show.
Earlier in the tournament, Amir had labelled Abhishek Sharma a “slogger”, suggesting that the India opener did not possess another gear in his game. The remark was made after Abhishek bagged three successive ducks in the group state.
