Jasprit Bumrah starred with the ball for India on Day 2 of the second Test against South Africa at Newlands, Cape Town.

India’s pace spearhead delivered a hostile spell to claim his ninth five-wicket haul (6/61) in Test cricket at a venue where he made his red-ball debut six seasons ago.

Thanks to his bowling heroics, India bundled out the Proteas for 176 and then chased down the target of 79 in 12 overs with seven wickets in hand to level the two-match Test series 1-1.

After the rollercoaster victory within two days, Bumrah said he has fond memories of Newlands and it holds a special place in his heart.

"This ground will always hold a special place in my heart," Bumrah, who won the Player-of-the-Series award alongside Dean Elgar, said at the post-match presentation.

"The journey started here in 2018, always have fond memories. Very happy it went well today.

"Our bowling unit was experienced and we wanted to make an impact. I didn't expect the game to go this fast," he added.

India’s pace battery donned a new look in this series in the absence of veteran campaigner Mohammad Shami. Besides Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj featured in the attack alongside newcomers like Mukesh Kumar and Prasidh Krishna.

"Our team is going through a transition but the message is the same -- keep fighting. A lot of bowlers have been changed, the message in the team is, keep fighting.

"We fought it out in the last game as well. It requires a lot of patience. We are very happy that we were able to do it in this game," Bumrah remarked.

On Day 1 of the Test match, South Africa’s first innings folded for a mere 55 as Siraj produced an outstanding spell to return with six wickets (6/15).

His spell set the tone for India’s series-levelling win and the right-arm quick was rightly adjudged Player-of-the-Match.

"It's my best figures in Test career. I tried to be consistent and hit the right areas," Siraj stated. "I wasn't consistent in the previous match and that's why we leaked a lot of runs. Worked hard on consistency and tried to be relentless with my lengths."

Siraj also credited his senior bowling partner Bumrah for his success. "When we play together with Jassi bhai, we analyse the wicket quicker and understand the plans."
