The second and final Test match between South Africa and India got underway at Newlands in Cape Town on January 3, 2024. India trails the series 1-0 after losing the first Test in Centurion by an innings and 32 runs.

Dean Elgar captaining South Africa in his final Test match, won the toss and chose to bat first. Tristan Stubbs made his Test debut, while Lungi Ngidi was also included as well for the injured Gerald Coetzee.

On the other hand, India brought in Ravindra Jadeja for R Ashwin and Mukesh Kumar replaced Shardul Thakur in the XI.

Many expected South Africa to replicate their success from the first Test, but they encountered a fired-up Mohammed Siraj at his best. Mohammed Siraj breathed fire and took the first three wickets, sending back the top order of South Africa back to the pavilion in no time.

He took three wickets and Bumrah took one as South Africa was reduced to 15/4 inside 10 overs. David Bedingham (12) and Kyle Verreynne (15) tried to rebuild, but Indian bowling was just too good as Mohammed Siraj finished with his career-best Test figures of 6/15.

South Africa was bowled out 55 runs as Jasprit Bumrah took 2/25 and Mukesh Kumar chipped in with two wickets without conceding a run in his 2.2 overs.

This was the lowest Test total for South Africa since their readmission in international cricket. This was also the lowest Test total by a team against India.

The Indian cricket fraternity was shocked as South Africa scored just 55 runs, butlauded Indian bowlers, especially Mohammed Siraj for his brilliant bowling.
