The incident happened between 3-day warm-up game between Maharashtra and Mumbai.
The explosion came just moments after Shaw was removed for a superb 181 off 220 balls, which included 21 fours and three sixes. Shaw, playing for Maharashtra for the first time against his former Mumbai teammates, was in sparkling form, sharing a record-breaking 305-run opening stand with Arshin Kulkarni, who went on to smash 186 from 140 balls.
Shaw's dismissal in the 74th over, caught at square leg by Irfan Umair off Musheer Khan, triggered a strong emotional response. Shaw walked off the field, apparently enraged, allegedly provoked by two words from Musheer Khan: "Thank you."
The sarcastic tone of Musheer Khan and his send-off provoked Shaw, who turned back angrily at Khan and wanted to hit him with his bat. He wanted to grab Musheer’s collar before being separated by an on-field umpire and fellow players.
Both Mumbai and Maharashtra agreed to Cricbuzz that the sledging had intensified during Shaw's knock, but it was Musheer's pointed "Thank you" after the wicket that sealed the victory for the Maharashtra batsman. The brief brawl marred an otherwise excellent day of play.
“It’s a practice match. They’re all former teammates. Such things happen in the heat of the moment. It’s all okay now, and there’s no issue,” Maharashtra captain Ankit Bawne said.
Neither the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) nor the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MACA) has released an official statement or taken any disciplinary action as of yet.
