Both India stalwarts suddenly disappeared from the updated ICC ODI batting rankings.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) clarified an error after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s names mysteriously went missing from the updated ODI batting rankings released on Wednesday (August 20).
Both Indian stalwarts, who were ranked No. 2 and No. 4 last week, suddenly disappeared from the top-100, causing confusion and speculation across social media. Fans wondered whether it was a technical error or an intentional update by the apex body.
In an exclusive chat with Hindustan Times, an ICC spokesperson acknowledged the mistake. “There was an error in our rankings tables today, but it has been rectified,” the official said.
Soon after the clarification, Rohit and Kohli’s names reflected on the updated rankings chart. Until last week’s update, Rohit was second only to Shubman Gill in the ICC ODI batting charts, while Kohli occupied the fourth spot. The duo retained their positions in the latest update.
Having announced their retirements from the T20I and Test formats over the last 14 months, the legendary pair remain active only in the 50-over format. However, their participation in the 2027 ODI World Cup is uncertain as of now.
