Yash Dayal has been accused of sexual assault on pretext of marriage.
Dayal was purchased for Rs 7 lakh at this year's auction and now plays for the Gorakhpur Lions in the UP T20 League. However, a girl from Ghaziabad accused the pacer of rape, which led the police to file a formal complaint.
The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) has prohibited Dayal from participating in the league because of the cases filed against him, according to a Dainik Jagran report. But according to Vishesh Gaur, owner of Gaur Sons, the company that owns Gorakhpur Lions, the UPCA has not given the team any such information.
On July 6, Dayal, 27, was the subject of the first formal complaint (FIR) filed under Section 69 (Sexual intercourse by adopting fraudulent means etc.) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Indirapuram police station in the Ghaziabad district. Dayal has been charged with taking advantage of a woman sexually under the guise of marriage.
The complainant claims that Dayal had pledged to marry her when they first met, some five years ago. Additionally, the woman said that Dayal repeatedly put off her marriage proposal until she discovered that Dayal was also seeing other women.
Dayal argued in his petition that a person can only be charged with a crime under Section 69 of the BNS if it can be proven that he promises to marry a woman without intending to follow through on that promise. Dayal had requested in his petition that the FIR against him be quashed and that his detention in the case be stayed.
