The person who got Patidar's number received calls from Kohli, De Villiers and others.
As per NDTV report, since Patidar's old mobile number had not been used for more than ninety days, his telecom provider deactivated it and then reassigned it. Manish, a kid from Chhattisgarh's Gariaband area, bought the number and activated it in late June using a Reliance Jio SIM card.
As a reminder of the number's prior owner, Manish and his friend Khemraj saw Patidar's photo showing up as the new number's WhatsApp profile picture shortly after it was activated.
Prominent members of the cricket community, including as AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli, soon started calling the phone number in an effort to get in touch with Patidar. Though initially baffled, Manish and Khemraj found humour in the situation, unaware of the number’s significance.
When Patidar himself called Manish to get his old number back, the matter took a more dangerous turn. According to Patidar, the number represents an essential link to his coaches, teammates, and personal connections.
But the young men were unconvinced, jokingly responding, "And we're MS Dhoni," not thinking it was actually Patidar on the line.
When Patidar was met with incredulity, he allegedly said, "Okay, I'll send the cops," which swiftly exacerbated the situation.
The local police showed up at Manish's house in ten minutes to arbitrate the dispute. When Manish and Khemraj realized how serious the situation was, they cooperated completely and gave the SIM card back to its original owner.
Reflecting on the incident, Khemraj described the experience as a dream come true.
“I got to speak to Kohli because of a wrong number. My life’s goal is complete,” he told the TV channel.
