Suryavanshi took the cricketing world by storm with his dazzling exploits in the IPL 2025.
Playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR), the southpaw scored 252 runs in seven matches with a strike rate of 206.55. The highlight of his maiden IPL season was the mind-blowing 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
Suryavanshi, at just 14 years and 32 days, became the youngest-ever batter to score a ton in the cash-rich league. His 101-run knock off 38 balls, studded with seven boundaries and 11 sixes, paved the way for RR’s eight-wicket victory in the chase of 210 with 25 deliveries to spare.
During the course of his whirlwind innings, Suryavanshi broke Yusuf Pathan's 15-year-old record for the fastest IPL hundred by an Indian. His ton was the second fastest in the tournament history after Chris Gayle's century in 30 balls for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013.
Speaking to RR skipper Sanju Samson, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin joked about how when he made his IPL debut 18 years ago, teenage prodigy Vaibhav wasn’t even in his parents’ imagination.
“When he hit the first ball for a six, I was like, ‘That’s cool…he lucked out’. But then he just went on and on and on. Wow! The quality of the shots he was hitting shocked me," Samson said while speaking on Ashwin’s YouTube channel.
“Let me tell you a small story, after the Rajasthan vs Chennai match in Delhi, I was talking to Panish (Shetty, RR lead analyst). You also joined us and left. It isn’t just about his (Vaibhav’s) hitting," Ashwin replied.
“I bowled one to him round the stumps and he smacked it through the covers. The next ball, I bowled a slower one. You (Samson) have kept wickets for me for a long time and you know I do that to see if he would go for the big one," Ashwin said.
“I pulled it a bit wide and he (Vaibhav) just waited and gave it a solid shot and the ball went through mid-on for a single. I remember thinking, ‘What the hell, man… Where has this guy come from?" Ashwin added.
“He (Vaibhav) was 14 and I made my IPL debut 18 years ago. He was not even in the imagination of his parents… That was quite crazy. I saw Jos Buttler talking to Jofra Archer about it. About how it was to get smashed around by a 14-year-old in the nets," Ashwin further remarked.
Following the IPL 2025, Vaibhav Suryavanshi made a mark in the Youth ODI series against England. He produced knocks of 48, 45 and 86 in the first, second and third Youth ODI, respectively. However, his best bit of display came in the fourth game in Worcester, where he slammed a stunning 52-ball century — the fastest ever in Youth ODIs.
The left-hander went on to score a remarkable 143 off 78 deliveries. His blistering knock included 13 boundaries and 10 sixes.
