BCCI has already postponed the white-ball tour to Bangladesh to 2026.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is mulling a boycott of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) AGM, which is set for July 24 and 25 in Dhaka and headed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi.
The BCCI has insisted on a venue change from Dhaka as a condition for participation, and it has the support of key allies, including Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. This has called into question the legality of the AGM itself, as at least three permanent (test-playing) members are required to form a quorum.
The Asia Cup 2025's future has been called into question since the Pahalgam terror tragedy. Indian cricket fans advocated a complete boycott of Pakistani cricket at all stages. Even the WCL 2025 match was called off.
The BCCI has informed the ACC that the meeting location must be changed away from Bangladesh due to India's worsening relationship with the country. They have also postponed the white-ball series against Bangladesh in August 2025 to next year.
The ACC, which is now chaired by Mohsin Naqvi of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is apparently insistent about holding the ACGM in Dhaka, although there may not be enough members to attend.
According to Cricbuzz, the ACC constitution requires at least ten full or associate members (non-Test-playing nations) to attend the AGM for a legal quorum, which may be impossible given that Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are also planning to boycott the conference.
Nepal, the UAE, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar are the remaining full members of the ACC. The associate members include Bahrain, Bhutan, Cambodia, Tajikistan, the Maldives, Japan, Iran, China, Myanmar, and Indonesia.
As per Cricbuzz, Oman, Nepal, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmar, and Indonesia may also skip the meeting.
The report also states that PCB’s Mohsin Naqvi had flown to Kabul on Sunday to persuade Afghanistan to attend the ACC meeting in Bangladesh. However, the ACB has already assured the BCCI of its support and will boycott the AGM in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, the BCCI's reluctance has become a big issue for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), with one section even requesting that President Aminul Islam cancel the meeting.
“Bulbul (Aminul) was requested to cancel the meeting as some of the board directors were not ready to do anything that could hurt the BCCI, but the president insisted that he had given his word and so cannot return after giving his word to PCB,” a BCB source told Cricbuzz.
It remains to be seen whether the ACC bows down to the pressure and moves the meeting from Bangladesh or Mohsin Naqvi stands his ground.
