India batter Shubman Gill has moved closer to Pakistan’s Babar Azam’s no.1 batter spot in the latest update of the ICC ODI batting rankings. Also, apart from Gill, three more Indians, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer, feature in the top 10 ODI batting rankings.
Pakistan batter Babar Azam maintains a narrow lead at the head of the proceeding, but Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are closing in after terrific performances in the ongoing England ODI series.
Shubman Gill moved up one spot to second in the latest ODI batter rankings, just five rating points behind Babar after back-to-back half-centuries against England, while India captain Rohit Sharma is within 13 rating points of the Pakistan right-hander after a brilliant century in Cuttack.
With only one week until the Champions Trophy event in Pakistan and the UAE, the competition for the top batting position in 50-over cricket during the eight-team tournament has become tight.
Apart from Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli is in sixth spot, while Shreyas Iyer moved up to the no.10 spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings.
Fakhar Zaman (13th), Kane Williamson (29th), Jos Buttler (38th), Devon Conway (equal 40th), and Joe Root (51st) are among the prominent names to re-enter the ODI batter rankings following a recent return to 50-over cricket.
Meanwhile, in the ICC ODI bowling rankings, only 8 rating points separate Rashid Khan, Maheesh Theekshana, Bernard Scholtz, Shaheen Afridi, and Kuldeep Yadav inside the top five for ODI bowlers. India duo Ravindra Jadeja (11th) and Mohammed Shami (13th) sit just outside the top 10 following a recent return against England.
In the ODI all-rounders rankings, Mohammad Nabi continues to be no.1, with New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner (up two places to seventh) among the biggest movers.
