India skipper Rohit Sharma has reportedly accused legendary batter and renowned commentator, Sunil Gavaskar, of being “too negative” about him during the recently held Australia Test tour.

According to CricBlogger, Rohit also complained to the BCCI against Gavaskar during one of the meetings he had with the top officials of the Indian board.

Rohit was all over the place on the tour of Australia, managing just 31 runs in five innings at an abysmal average of 6.20 -- the lowest by a touring captain on Australian soil.

Speculations over his Test future gained momentum after he stepped aside from the fifth match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

During the series, Gavaskar, in his column for The Sydney Morning Herald, wrote: “The skipper, Rohit Sharma, was out of his depth and having taken the brave decision to step aside, because of his form, he has also raised big questions about his future in Test cricket.”

Not one to mince his words, Gavaskar had also said on-air that Rohit would step down “if he doesn’t score runs in Melbourne and Sydney and he won’t wait for the selectors to make that call”.

Rohit reportedly raised this matter with the BCCI officials, which suggests that he is not quite comfortable with outside noise impacting his focus.

“Rohit felt that it was not necessity for Gavaskar to criticise him in that fashion and that’s why he complained to the BCCI about Gavaskar,” CricBlogger quoted a source as saying.

During the Australia tour, Gavaskar had also said that Jasprit Bumrah should take over India’s Test captaincy after Rohit missed the opening match in Perth due to paternity leave.

“All these added so much pressure that he was compelled to tell it all to BCCI,” the source added.

Rohit Sharma will return to action for India during the ODI series against England, starting on February 6 in Nagpur. The three ODIs are seen as a final dress rehearsal for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, slated to be held in Pakistan and UAE from February 19 to March 9.

India will begin their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
